The Lord's Pattern of Marriage

In 2015 a monumental Supreme Court Case took place, this case revolved around the legalizing gay marriage in every state, (the case name is Obergeffell v. Hodges, 576 2015 if you want to read it in detail.) The 4-5 split decision resulted in gay marriages being legalized in the states as a result of arguments of the winning side that banning marriage between gay couples would violate the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution among other things.
“Addressing the Equal Protection Clause, Roberts stated that same-sex marriage bans did not violate the clause because they were rationally related to a governmental interest: preserving the traditional definition of marriage.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obergefell_v._Hodges) I have researched both sides and still conclude that I am in favor of this side of the issue. I believe that Marriage should be between a man and women, as is the way that The Lord intended marriages to be.
President Russell M Nelson said the following in a commencement speech at BYU in 2014: “In short, as disciples, each of us will be put to the test. At any hour of any day we have the privilege of choosing between right and wrong. This is an age-old battle that started in a premortal realm. And that battle is becoming more intense every day. Your individual strength of character is needed now more than ever before.
The day is gone when you can be a quiet and comfortable Christian. Your religion is not just about showing up for church on Sunday. It is about showing up as a true disciple from Sunday morning through Saturday night—24/7! There is no such thing as a “part-time” disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus invited anyone who wants to be His disciple to take up His cross and follow Him. Are you ready to join the ranks?” (https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/russell-m-nelson_disciples-jesus-christ-defenders-marriage/)
In response to President Nelson’s question I am ready to join the ranks and defend the family as The Lord intended it to be. I feel extremely blessed to have the knowledge of the gospel which includes the knowledge that I have of God’s great plan of happiness for his children. Just one part of that plan is being able to participate in eternal marriages. When we are married in the temples of The Lord we remove the phrase, “Till death do you part,” and include, “For time and all eternity.” What a blessing it is to be connected to those that we love beyond the grave. Russell M Nelson said the following concerning this, “The noblest yearning of the human heart is for a marriage that will endure beyond death. Complete fidelity to covenants made in holy temples will allow husband and wife to be sealed together throughout all eternity.”
This type of marriage, one performed by someone who holds the power of God to seal a man and women together for time and all eternity is the type of marriage that our children need to be able to grow up in the best possible environment. This type of marriage fosters love and team work as the couple becomes a partnership filled with strength and love for one another. There are attributes that both contribute due to their divine heritage of being a man or women that would not be possible if one gender filled both roles.

Marriage between a man and women is ordained of God and should be protected.
